At Hearts to Harmony we believe education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. We provide sponsorships to students seeking education from primary school to university and further education. We provide the means for a secure future through education, love and opportunities; empowering growing minds to reach their full potential.
Our education sponsorships are tailored to each individual helping them to achieve their own goals for the future. We currently have future Lawyers, Business Managers, Tourism Experts as well as Secondary School, Primary School and Additional Language students.
With the help of your generous donations and our Hearts to Harmony friends and family, we are hoping to expand this program to even more students in the future.
Monthly Rice Donations
In Cambodia, it is all too common for children to stop their education in order to help support their family. There are a high number of children who do not attend school, but work to earn money for food and other basic items.
We want our families to have full bellies, but don't want them sacrificing their education to do so. At the start of every month we perform 'food drops' where we deliver rice along with a few sauces and spices, to our families.
We conduct small workshops with each family, teaching them about nutrition and the importance of a diet high in fruit and vegetables. The workshops also explain how to consume a nutrient rich diet from the smallest amount of money, helping them save money and stay healthy.
We have recently started expanding our food donations, which means more rice, more full bellies and more beaming smiles! Your generous donations will help us to fill stomachs!
Wheels, Wheels, Wheels
Wheels, Wheels, Wheels is our bicycle program. Bicycles are the main mode of transport in Cambodia, providing not only a way for children to go to school and parents to go to work, but also transport in case of a medical emergency.
We have recently started expanding our bicycle program, the Bicycle Program has donated a further 139 bicycles to our neighbouring organizations in need.
Bicycles are always on our wish list!
Health is a big player in our game here at Hearts to Harmony. With so many diseases and parasites floating around, its no wonder doctor visits are frequent. Every Hearts to Harmony member is educated on personal and environmental hygiene, how to stay clean and how to keep their surroundings as hygienic as possible. That being said, after education, medical is our second biggest expenditure.
After hearing many complaints of toothaches and sore gums we realised how big the need for dental care was also. Everyone now visits the dentist half-yearly and has been educated on teeth brushing and general oral hygiene.
So far it has been all smiles before and after the visits to the dentist, even the little kids!
Tnai Samrap Srey
Hearts to Harmony has teamed up like minded allies Green Gecko Project for a project inspired by – and in support of – Days for Girls International, an organisation that empowers days of education, health, safety and dignity for girls and women all over the world no matter what time of the month.
TNAI SAMRAP SREY literally translates from Khmer into DAYS FOR GIRLS and like their tag line, it is for EVERY GIRL. EVERYWHERE. PERIOD. Fortunately the girls at Green Gecko and beneficiaries of Hearts to Harmony have access to feminine hygiene products, but there are many girls and women throughout Cambodia who, without appropriate feminine hygiene are missing valuable DAYS WITHOUT SCHOOL, DAYS WITHOUT INCOME, DAYS WITHOUT LEAVING THE HOUSE.
Working together, Green Gecko and Hearts to Harmony want to become involved by creating and distributing feminine hygiene kits and continue to raise awareness of the female hygiene issues in Cambodia.
As well as assisting our students and families we try to assist the community as much as possible. We collaborate with other organizations, and help where we can.
We have assisted with house builds, school builds, bicycle donations, community clean up days, sports programs and wherever else help is needed.
Leading by example is important to us, to show that giving is just as rewarding as receiving. This has had a positive influence on many members of our Hearts to Harmony family, who often conduct community work through the kindness of their own hearts.
Our aim at Hearts to Harmony is to assist the journey of families and individuals in creating a sustainable living. We provide a hand up, not a hand out. One way that we help our families help themselves is to assist with micro business start-ups.
By helping provide another form of income for families empowers them to support themselves without relying on others. Knowing they are providing for their families is an empowering feeling for our families.
Some of our micro-business start-ups consist of farming, sewing and weaving.
